Silver-Lining Arch

The Shadow-Lining Arch began as a single sheet of stainless steel. The sheet was carefully formed through a series of incremental bends to create its smooth, continuous radius. While the original design achieved the clean, uninterrupted form we envisioned, real world testing revealed an engineering challenge that could not be overlooked.
Once the arch was installed, strong winds exposed a lack of structural rigidity, causing the arch to sway during heavy gusts of wind. Rather than compromising the design, we engineered a solution that strengthened the piece while preserving its minimalist appearance.
To achieve this, two square tubes were radius bent to match the exact curvature of the arch. These concealed structural tubes were then integrated into the fabrication, dramatically increasing the arch's rigidity and ensuring it could withstand outdoor conditions without altering its seamless silhouette.
The result is a structure that balances refined aesthetics with robust engineering, proof that successful fabrication is as much about adapting and problem-solving as it is about craftsmanship. Every challenge presented an opportunity to improve the final product, resulting in an installation that is both visually striking and built to last.
