Val De Vie Fireplace Cladding

The installation of this custom fireplace cladding began with careful site preparation and accurate measurements to ensure the copper sheets would follow the full geometry of the fireplace from floor to ceiling. The cladding was fabricated using 1.5mm thick copper sheets, selected for their warm metallic character and ability to create a striking architectural feature.

1. Site Measurement & Preparation

The fireplace was measured in detail, accounting for the height, width, corners, edges and surrounding surfaces. The substrate was prepared to provide a clean, stable and suitable surface for the copper cladding.

2. Copper Sheet Preparation

The 1.5mm copper sheets were cut and formed to the required dimensions before installation. Each section was carefully prepared to ensure accurate alignment, particularly where multiple planes of the fireplace met.

3. Floor-to-Ceiling Installation

The copper cladding was installed continuously from the floor all the way to the ceiling, creating a strong, uninterrupted architectural feature. Each sheet was positioned carefully to maintain consistent lines and alignment throughout the height of the fireplace.

4. Corner & Joint Detailing

Particular attention was given to the corners and transitions between sheets. The copper was carefully fitted so that the joins remained clean, controlled and visually consistent, creating the appearance of one continuous copper surface rather than a collection of individual panels.

5. Surface Finishing

Once the cladding was installed, the copper surfaces were carefully inspected and cleaned, ensuring the material was free from installation marks and that the overall finish remained uniform. The natural character of the copper was retained, allowing the material itself to become a defining feature of the fireplace.
