Fire - Burn Dining Table

The fabrication of the Yakisugi Burnt Table began with the Siberian Larch table top. The individual 30mm thick wood pieces were carefully positioned and joined together using dowels, which provided additional alignment and strength between each section. The pieces were then glued together to create a solid, continuous table top.
Once the timber had been joined, the required cut-outs for the through legs were carefully marked and cut into the table top. These openings were designed to allow the stainless steel legs to pass directly through the timber, creating the defining detail of the through-leg construction.

The table top was then subjected to the Shou Sugi Ban burning process. A blow torch was used to burn the surface of the Siberian Larch, gradually developing the deep, dark finish specified for the piece. The burning process was carefully controlled to achieve an even appearance while allowing the natural texture and grain of the timber to remain visible.
The stainless steel legs were fabricated from 12mm thick Grade 304 stainless steel, with 6mm thick flanges incorporated into the construction. Once fabricated, the stainless steel components were worked and brushed to create the desired linear finish, complementing the darkened timber.

With both the timber top and stainless steel framework prepared, the components were brought together. The brushed stainless steel legs were positioned through the pre-cut openings in the timber, creating a strong visual connection between the two materials. The table top was then securely joined to the leg structure, completing the assembly.
The finished Yakisugi Burnt Table brings together the natural character of burnt Siberian Larch with the clean structure of brushed Grade 304 stainless steel, creating a substantial through-leg dining table with a distinctly tactile and architectural finish.
